Detection of Sorbitol in milk using Paper-based discs

The method developed describes the preparation method of discs for detection of sorbitol in milk and its method of use.
The developed discs when added in a sequential manner to the filtrate of the suspected milk. Appearance of greyish/ light violet/ pinkish color indicates the sorbitol positive samples, whereas green color indicates the sorbitol negative samples. The test can detect the presence of 0.25% level of sorbitol in milk.
The developed discs are easy to use and test can be used as a platform test to detect the presence of sorbitol in milk received at milk collection centres in the milk procurement chain. The developed technology is simple, no requirement of high-end Instruments and equipment’s like water bath/centrifuge etc. No need to prepare reagent solutions every time.
