Kufri Chipbharat-1

Technology Details: Potato is the world’s third most important food crop after rice and wheat. India is now producing 60 million tonnes of potatoes from an area of 2.2 million ha with an average productivity of 24 t/   ha and is the 2nd largest producer after China. Potato varieties developed by ICAR-CPRI occupy >94% of the total potato area of the country. Besides, some of them have also gained popularity in many other countries. In the present scenario, there is an increasing demand of potatoes for processing industry, as about 10% potatoes are processed in India compared to >50% in Europe and US. Keeping in view the same, ICAR-CPRI has developed Kufri Chipbharat-1 (MP/12-126) exhibiting excellent traits for processing into chips with medium maturity as compared to the earlier developed variety and certainly meet out the requirement of processing industries.
