CMVL 55 has been developed by combining field corn lines V 407 and V 405. It is an early maturing (90-95 days) hybrid. CMVL 55 gave higher average yield of 7,071 kg/ha in Northern Hill Zone (Zone I) as compared to the best check Prakash (6.155 kg/ha), exhibiting yield 14.9 per cent yield superiority over the check Prakash. In Peninsular Zone (Zone IV), mean yield of CMVL 55 was 8,024 kg/ha, and it registered 23.7% yield superiority over the check Prakash. During the four years of multilocational trials. Central Maize VL 55 exhibited moderate resistance against maydis leaf blight. common rust and Post-Flowering Stalk Rot.
