Arka Cucurlure

Background:
A Novel kairomone based synergistic blend with plant volatiles and Para-Pheromones for increasing male trap catches of cue lure attracted Cucurbit (=Melon) fruit flies, Zeugodacus (=Bactrocera) cucurbitae.

Technology Details:
The technology is based on a combinative plant volatiles and cue lure blend (Arka-Cucurlure) containing kairomones from cucurbitaceous plants that have electrophysiological excitation, to enhance attraction of male Zeugodacuscucurbitae. Traditional cue lure which is used to attract male flies of Z. cucurbitae is a weak attractant. We have conducted significant number of lab and field trials to examine the potential of our formulation in attracting males. From the trial we concluded that our technology attracts a large number of males over conventional cue lure trap. Our technology targets male Z. cucurbitae thereby, linking the potential of our technology in IPM, melon fruit fly control and eradication programs. Our invention is a “first of its kind product” and there exist no competing product directed towards a synergistic blend containing plant volatiles and cue lure.:

1. Novelty: Our technology is a first of its kind combination product of effective individual plant volatiles and cue lure which are capable of attracting greater number of male Z. cucurbitaeflies.
2. Non-obviousness: The invention itself is first of its kind as mentioned earlier, we have conducted significant number of lab and field trials to arrive at this combination and compositions. We thoroughly examined the potential of our formulation in attracting the male flies of Z. cucurbitae.
3. Utility: From the experiment trials we concluded that our technology is capable of attracting greater numbers of male Z. cucurbitae flies. Our technology traps greater numbers of male flies thereby, linking the potential of our technology in cucurbit fruit fly IPM, male annihilation, control and eradication programs.
