ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Goats (CIRG)Background:
As goat farming shifts from extensive to intensive systems-particularly in peri-urban areas-complete pellet feeding is gaining popularity due to its economic and operational benefits. Moringa oleifera, a nutrient-rich perennial plant, serves as a key ingredient in this pellet feed. Its composition can be modified to make it economical, consumer health friendly
Technology Details:
The formulation incorporates M. oleifera leaves, rich in proteins (23–30%), vitamins, minerals, and other beneficial compounds. Pellets (8–10 mm width, 3–4 cm length) were prepared using an electric pellet machine. Feeding trials showed increased milk yield and improved animal health during lactation. The pellets are storable for over 6 months under ideal conditions and meet all nutritional needs.
