NIASM Nano-Mineral Mixture for Mitigation of Multiple Stresses in Fish

Technology details

The feed supplementation containing nano-mineral mixture enhanced the productivity under normal condition (stress free) as well as in stress condition in culture system. Nano-formulated (nano-mineral mixture) diets may help to improve fish reproduction, and boost recruitment of native fish populations in aquatic ecosystems. These diets can also enhance the detoxification of emerging contaminants from fish bodies. The technology comprises mixing of fish feed with nano-mineral mixture (Zinc nanoparticles, selenium nanoparticles, copper nanoparticles, manganese nanoparticles, cobalt, and iron nanoparticles) The advantage of this novel formulation is based on nano-based delivery systems which offer several advantages over traditional feed blending techniques, including:

    1. Broader applications for nutraceuticals
    2. Reduced leaching into water
    3. Smaller amounts needed for effectiveness
    4. Protection against oxidation and degradation
    5. Superior efficiency for antioxidants and preservatives
    6. Higher bioavailability of active ingredients
    7. Use of chemically unmodified substances
    8. Mechanical, thermal, and pH stability
    9. Ready-to-use formulations for feed production
    10. Processing without the need for additives
    11. Longer shelf-life and better storage protection

The nano-mineral mixture enhances the growth performance by 109%; feed efficiency by 101%; anti-oxidative status (182%); immunity (62.5%); GnRH (15%) and 11-KT testosterone (15.4%) in fish reared under arsenic (2.68 mg L-1), high temperature (34 °C) and low pH (6.5) stress in fish compared to control group. The product is ready for commercialization.
