Technology Details

VL Triposhi is a triple-biofortified hybrid (QPM + provitamin A-rich + low phytate), high yielding and early maturing single-cross hybrid. It possesses tryptophan 0.86%, lysine 3.55%, Provitamin A 5.58 µg/g and Phytate 2.19 mg/g. It matures in 90-95 days. Its average yield in the All India Coordinated Trials in Zone I (Northern Hill Zone) was 5,232 kg/ha. It exhibited moderate resistance against turcicum leaf blight. VL Triposhi has been recommended for North Western Hill Zone (Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand Hills) and North Eastern Hill Region (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura). Being high yielding and rich in essential amino acids Tryptophan & Lysine and provitamin A coupled with lower phytate content, the hybrid will help in improving nutritional security among maize consuming populations. Further, owing to its short duration, this hybrid can fit into various maize-based cropping systems prevalent in the country. The parental lines are high yielding and nick well and VL Triposhi, therefore, is a suitable hybrid for commercialization.
