ICAR-Central Institute For Cotton Research (CICR)Technology details: The Al-enabled pheromone trap provides real-time information on pink bollworm (PBW) catches integrated with weather data to facilitate timely pest management. The trap records moth captures at hourly intervals and transmits images and weather details to a remote server, where the YOLO-based Al algorithm processes the images, quantifies moth catches, and delivers results to end users through mobile or PC applications. By combining artificial intelligence with precision pest management, the system automates pest data collection, analysis, and dissemination via mobile alerts, thereby enabling farmers to make informed, data-driven decisions in real time. The integration of trap catches with weather information enhances understanding of pest dynamics over wider areas and strengthens the pest forewarning system in cotton. In the era of digital agriculture, timely pest alerts using Al Traps helps the farmers to manage the pink bollworm damage below the Economic Threshold Level (ETL), resulting in a 38.61% reduction in pesticide usage, a 34.2% reduction in pesticide costs and an 18.54% increase in yield compared to conventional pest management practices.
