Kashi Matar- 343 (Kashi Trishakti) (Pea variety)

Technology Background:

Powdery mildew and rust are major constraints in pea cultivation under North Indian plains, with no single variety currently available that offers resistance to both in one genetic background.

Technology Details:

In vegetable pea, few varieties/lines are resistant to either powdery mildew or rust or both. But this is the genotype which has resistant to three diseases viz., powdery mildew, rust and Downey mildew. Accordingly, the genotype has also been registered with NBPGR, New Delhi. The variety is of mid-season (first picking in 90-95 days), bears 15-20 pods with double pod bearing habit on most of its peduncle and potential pod yield of 125-135 q/ha than Kashi Samridhi (100-118 q/ha; mean percent increase around 19.27%) which is powdery mildew resistant genotypes of vegetable pea. The genotype is also having better quality attributes. Additionally, this genotype can be used for future breeding programme for development of multiple disease resistant lines/varieties. The key morphological features include Have shorter internodes, bears 15-20 pods per plant.

Unique Characterises:

  • Number of primary branches (2-3).
  • Suitable for 2-3 picking.
  • Pod length 8-8.5 cm
  • 10- pod weight: 70-75g.
  • Seeds per pod: 8-8.6.
  • Potential yield/hectare: 125-135q.
  • 100-green seed weight is 45-50g.
  • 100-dry seed weight is 27.98g
  • Seeds are smooth and cream on seed maturity (RHS Color chart code GYG162C).
  • It is resistant to multiple diseases, including powdery mildew.
