Cherry tomato (Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme) is a small garden variety of tomato from which the present cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.). It is a high value fruit vegetable which bears small attractive fruits with typical taste and nutritional benefits. Cherry tomato fruits have higher dry matter and soluble solids than normal tomatoes; these differences are due to higher levels of sugars (fructose and glucose) and organic acids (citric and malic), which are key factors in determining the sweetness, sourness, and overall flavour intensity of most cherry tomato varieties. Presently, there is no available variety of cherry tomato at the institute.
