Feed for Carp Polyculture ‘CIFACA’

Background
Feeds share over 60% of the input cost in aquaculture. In carp grow-out culture rice bran and oilcake mixture were the only feeding practice in India with FCR of 3-4 kg. Fish are unable to get all balanced nutrients from the mash feed. Also, feed wastage was very high on feeding bran-cake mixture as mash feed. Keeping all the shortcomings of carp feeds and minimizing the feed cost a balanced pelleted feed ’CIFACA’ was developed at ICAR-CIFA to boost the aquaculture industry in the country. The feed was highly acceptable to the fish farmers as the first-ever carp feed in the country.
Technology Details
CIFACA was formulated were tested through on-farm evaluation at the experimental ponds of ICAR-CIFA and in the farmer’s pond. Later, there some alternate feed ingredients were incorporated to make the feed cost-effective without losing the performance. The FCR of the feed is 1.5.
