ICAR - Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR)Background:
Phosphorus deficiency is considered as one of the major limiting factors in rice productivity as it plays a crucial role in the plant growth and grain yield. In India, most of the cultivated soil is becoming either low or extremely poor in availability of P. Farming communities face difficulties to tackle the issue as access or availability of P fertilizers is limited and also due to the high cost of P fertilizers. In this situation, the development of varieties which could perform well under low P conditions is essential to avoid the yield loss. The variety DRRDhan74 is a low phosphorus tolerant variety with high yield along with multiple biotic and abiotic stress tolerance with high nutrient use efficiency.
Technology Details:
DRR Dhan 74 (IET 30252) is an interspecific wild introgression line, a derivative of KMR 3 / O rufipogon with short bold grains, with high yielding potential under both normal and low soil phosphorous conditions. IET 30252 (RPBio4919-B2NSR5), is similar to the recurrent parent, KMR3 possessing good cooking quality with short bold grain type and higher yield and moderately resistant reaction to leaf blast, neck blast, sheath rot and plant hoppers. It is high yielding under both low soil phosphorus and normal irrigated condition. It has short bold grain type with good HRR (67.9 %), amylose content (23.81%), GC (22) and ASV (7.0). Exhibited moderately tolerant reaction to with SI of 4.7 (for leaf blast and 4.2 for neck blast, 4.3 for Sheath rot as compared to the Checks. The variety showed field tolerance to insect pests like plant hoppers SI of 2.7 (2021, 2022 & 2023), leaf folder SI of 11.1, stem borer % of white ears of 10.8, Brown plant hopper SI of 6.4 .as an average across 3 years. Variety was released in the states of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand and dedicated to nation by honourable PM as a climate resilient variety.
