Background :
Naturally coloured cotton is a rarity. The lint is either brown or green with shades of both. This coloured-cotton is due to the formation of coloured pigments in the cotton fiber during its growth and development on the seed. A good plant selection out of a colouredcotton population led to the stabilization of DDCC-1 as a new almond coloured-cotton variety. :
Technology Details :
DDCC-1 (Dharwad Desi Colour Cotton-1) is the first identified promising genotype in the coloured-cotton group. It is highly suited for rainfed situations and the fiber has desirable properties for handloom textiles. The almond coloured lint does not require any dyeing and hence the fabric made is environmentally safe. It avoids water pollution and aids in good human health. :
