Description : Bhopal, October 27, 2023 —ICAR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (ICAR-NIHSAD) today signed the Technology License Agreement (TLA) with M/S HiMedia Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., Thane for transfer of the technology "Indirect ELISA Kit for Avian Influenza Virus Antibody Detection in Chicken" for its commercial production. The diagnostic technology, developed by scientists at ICAR-NIHSAD holds immense promise in tackling avian influenza, a recurrent threat to the poultry industry. The tripartite agreement was signed among ICAR-NIHSAD, M/s HiMedia Laboratories Pvt. Ltd and Agrinnovate India Ltd. at an event organized by ICAR-NIHSAD on 27th October, 2023 at Bhopal. Dr. Aniket Sanyal, Director, ICAR-NIHSAD, Dr. Rajas Warke, Director (Molecular Biology), M/s HiMedia Laboratories Pvt. Ltd, and Dr. Praveen Malik, CEO M/s Agrinnovate India Ltd., were the signatories to this landmark agreement. The avian influenza viruses have caused significant economic losses to the poultry farmers and poultry industry in India. The newly licensed ELISA kit offers a cost-effective, import substitute to monitor and control avian influenza and has undergone rigorous validation, adhering to the WOAH standards. The kit has a very high diagnostic sensitivity (99.0%) and specificity (99.0%). This advancement marks a significant step towards safeguarding India's poultry industry, reducing economic losses, and reinforcing the country's capabilities in the field of animal health and disease control.
