Description : Nitte University DST Technology Enabling Center in collaboration with Agriinnovate of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India organized an interactive session with Agro-industry on March 18, 2022. Dr. Sudha Mysore, Chief Executive Officer, Agrinnovate was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sudha Mysore explained how Agrinnovate acts as an interface between various institutions under the National Agricultural Research System, which includes research institutes under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and State Agricultural universities on one side and the stakeholders of agricultural sector like farmers, agro-industry operators, postharvest and food processing industries. She explained the process of technology development that would benefit farmers, processors and agro-industries, evaluation of the technologies and commercialization.Dr. Sudha Mysore presented examples to agri-technologies that have been commercialized through Agrinnovate. These include biofertilisers, agri-industry related technologies like dairy and food technologies, disease diagnostics and vaccines. Agrinnovate has also created incubation facilities where companies wanting to scale up or field test technologies could do this in collaboration with ICAR institutions or Universities. Dr. M.N. Moodithaya, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Nitte University, delivering the presidential address highlighted the need to focus on novel technologies as the global situation is moving towards knowledge economy. He indicated that higher educational institutions need to move towards not only imparting technical skills, but also business skills and managerial competencies that are essential for young entrepreneurs and Startups as they move towards technology commercialization. In this direction, the Nitte University is making strides through the DST funded Technology Enabling Center, which is connecting academic institutions with entreprenuers to facilitate and enable technology development and commercialization. Dr (Mrs) Indrani Karunasagar, Director DST Technology Enabling Center explained the genesis of DST Center at Nitte University and how the Center is handholding academic institutions and entrepreneurs. Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Advisor, Research and Patents explained the need for multidisciplinary approach for technology development how DST Technology Enabling Center could contribute to bringing together different institutions with complementary expertise. Dr. Mamatha from Nitte University Center for Science Education and Research proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Akshatha from DST TEC compered the programme.
